Bun dé a düc,
the Maratona of Traces has only just ended; and we have left our traces - indelibly. Even before the preparations for the 2009 Maratona began, we were already full of energy with all its force and desire for participation. Energy is the capacity to act. Energy is a force of expression.
The desire to be here, together, zusammen, adüm, insieme, syn , as our late Bishop Egger used to say; being together, in a great number, and spending together so many moments one after the other that are reflected on us all, creates energy. We should not be surprised then if the Maratona fascinates us, attracts us and makes us suffer. It is a question of energy. The energy that comes from the Dolomites and embraces us. The positive energy of the collaborators who “feel” the Maratona just as you feel it, pedalling up and down the Sella Pass. And what about the energy you have used when you were training for months on end? It wasn’t wasted energy, it is the transformation of energy into something more important. It’s having created something that we can all benefit from. It’s not philosophy, but physics: The law of preservation of energy states that energy in the universe is not created and is not destroyed, but transformed and mixed. Einstein, with his well known formula E = mc 2 teaches us that mass can be transformed into energy. Do you see? Observe and experience the details to try and understand everything. But this seems to me to be more philosophy than physics. Whichever it is, physics or philosophy, is not really important. What is important, is that there is poetry, or even an energy of poetry; or would it be better to say poetry full of energy? And it is with this year-old dilemma that we declare the 23rd Maratona dles Dolomites officially open! Hooray!
